The final step in this massive undertaking was the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge the longest single-span suspension bridge in the world. This marvel of architectonics stands as a testament to the genius of Asian engineering and judged in a context that perhaps the Japanese understand best as the most beautiful bridge in the world. We'll watch it rise from sketch to completion and see how it fared during the massive Kobe earthquake.
