Her appearance became a worldwide sensation that rocked the scientific community and ordinary citizens. Charming Dolly the sheep was born in July 1996 in Edinburgh’s Roslin Institute as a result of its successful cloning from an adult cell. British scientists managed to do what many thought impossible, or simply fiction, giving a new impetus to the rapid development of genetic engineering.
