For the second series, Gordon goes back on the road doing what he loves most: searching out the best food in the world and testing himself in extreme and demanding situations. This time he’s not just taking on one country, his appetite for adventure will take him through four of South East Asia s most exciting culinary destinations: Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and Vietnam. South East Asia is a region obsessed with food and its people are almost always found eating, cooking or discussing fresh food. Gordon loves Thai and Vietnamese food and he’s heard great things about Cambodian and Malaysian cooking so he’s eager to immerse himself in local culinary traditions. As he explores the different regions, Gordon will be inspired to cook and eat things he’s never come across before. And there’s plenty to be inspired by: no other corner of the world boasts such an enormous diversity of cuisine and culture. We’ll see Gordon speeding through breath-taking gorges on wooden fishing boats, sleeping on the floor in Buddhist monasteries, struggling through the throng of the world s busiest markets and waterways, and revitalising his passion for simple, honest cookery and unforgettable flavours.

It’s an awesome journey that takes him tonight to Cambodia – a country ravaged by the Khmer Rouge and where the population are only now recovering from the famines inflicted on them. In the capital, Phnom Penh he mucks in with the Friends’ Cookery School where a dedicated woman is training young chefs in native cuisine and also feeding hordes of street children. At the other end of the scale, Gordon’s invited to cook a traditional banquet for members of the Cambodian Royal Family and discovers that Michelin stars count for nothing.

The second series saw him travelling to South East Asia. Chef Gordon Ramsay continues his culinary journey in Vietnam, where he samples foods including still-beating snake heart, barbecued duck and basket-caught squid. He also visits a snake restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City, tries to obtain a secret recipe in Hanoi, and learns how to prepare rice cakes in Mai Chau, before hosting a pork dinner for some of the country’s food connoisseurs.

Malaysia’s food is a melting pot of influences, and Gordon has just a week to master the country’s best known dishes. Gordon travels to Malaysia where he learns more about lesser-known recipes from the region. In just a week Gordon must enter a ‘cook the national dish competition’ at one of the leading cooking schools in the country. He also ends up risking life as he climbs high up inside a bat-infested cave to get nests for birds’ nest soup. He also samples bull-penis broth and goes on the road with a bunch of food-loving Harley bikers.

Gordon Ramsay concludes his Asian tour in Thailand, where he learns to master some of the country’s most delicious dishes, and dives for giant oysters in Krabi. Gordon joins Thailand’s answer to the Women’s Institute as they compete for the acclaimed title of Best Fish Paste. He’s put to work by a formidable home cook in exchange for the secrets to her secret spicy sausage recipe. And Gordon meets his match on Thai national TV in a cook-off against Thailand’s foremost celebrity chef - McDang.
